Heat and Temperature
- Temperature refers to the degree of hotness or coldness of matter.
- SI unit for Temperature:-Kelvin(K)
- Instrument- thermometer
- Temperature and Heat:- not same
- Heat is a form of energy. When an object is heated, the heat energy cause its temperature to rise
- More heat energy=higher the temperature.
7.2 Heat Flow and its effect
1) Matter expands when heated and contract when cooled
2) When matter is heated:-
a. its particle vibrates more vigorously
b. the vibration causes the particles to move further apart; therefore, the distance between particles increases.
c. Result: expansion of matter occurs.
