heat and temperature(science form 1)

Heat and Temperature
  • Temperature refers to the degree of hotness or coldness of matter.
  • SI unit for Temperature:-Kelvin(K)
  • Instrument- thermometer
  • Temperature and Heat:- not same
  • Heat is a form of energy. When an object is heated, the heat energy cause its temperature to rise
  • More heat energy=higher the temperature.

7.2 Heat Flow and its effect

1)  Matter expands when heated and contract when cooled

2)  When matter is heated:-
a.   its particle vibrates more vigorously

b.  the vibration causes the particles to move further apart; therefore, the distance between particles increases.

c.   Result: expansion of matter occurs.
